TRAVELLING

The conference will take place at the University of Vienna, Universitätsring 1, 1010 Vienna.

BY TRAIN

Vienna's train stations are centrally located and have good connections to the public transport network. With the Vienna City Card, you'll enjoy total mobility the moment you arrive at the station, with subway, tram, and bus connections, as well as discounts for sightseeing, restaurants, and much more besides.​​

From Vienna Hauptbahnhof (Central Train Station) to City Center

1. By Subway (U1):​

  • Take the U1 subway (direction Leopoldau) from Hauptbahnhof

  • Get off at Stephansplatz, which is the heart of the city centre

  • Total travel time: Approximately 5 minutes

  • Cost: €2.40 (single ticket)


2. By Tram (D line):

  • Take the D tram (direction Nussdorf) from Hauptbahnhof

  • Get off at Schwedenplatz or Stadiongasse/Parlament, both near the city centre

  • Total travel time: approximately 15 minutes

  • Cost: €2.40 (single ticket)


3. By Taxi:

  • A taxi from Hauptbahnhof to the city centre will take around 10–15 minutes, depending on traffic

  • Cost: approximately €10–15

All registered participants can benefit from exclusive travel discounts with the Austrian national railway service (ÖBB): a 22% discount on the standard domestic fare, 10% off the international standard fare, and special rates for the ÖBB Nightjet. After completing registration, participants will receive the necessary link and password to access these offers.

BY PLANE

Vienna's airport Vienna-Schwechat can be reached from every European capital in less than three hours by plane. The free app offers up-to-date status reports on arrivals and departures as well as information about the airport.

​

Vienna Airport has good connections to the public transport network and can be reached quickly by train, bus or cab. You can find an overview of the transport options on the Getting to the airport page on Vienna's official tourism website.

From Vienna International Airport (Flughafen Wien-Schwechat)
1. By City Airport Train (CAT):

  • Take the City Airport Train (CAT) from the airport to Wien Mitte (Landstraße)

  • From Wien Mitte, you can easily walk to the city center in around 10-15 minutes

  • Total travel time: Approximately 16 minutes (CAT) + 10–15 minutes walking

  • Cost: €14.90 (one-way ticket)

2. By Train (S-Bahn S7):

  • Take the S-Bahn S7 (direction Floridsdorf) to Wien Mitte (Landstraße)

  • From there, it’s a 10–15-minute walk to the city centre

  • Total travel time: Approximately 25 minutes (S-Bahn) + 10–15 minutes walking

  • Cost: €4.50 (one-way ticket)


3. By Bus (Vienna Airport Lines):

  • Take the Vienna Airport Lines bus (VAL 1185) to Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz

  • From Schwedenplatz, you can walk to the city centre in about 5–10 minutes

  • Total travel time: Approximately 22–25 minutes

  • Cost: €10.50 (one-way ticket)

4. By Taxi:

  • A taxi from the airport to the city centre will take approximately 20–25 minutes, depending on traffic

  • Cost: Approximately €30–40

We have been alerted to the fact, that companies going by the name Global Travel (events@gtravelhost.com), EHS Exhibitor Housing Services and EHM Exhibitor Housing Management, Expo Housing Services, Docu Sign (dse@eumail.docusign.net), BTravel (support@betravelmanagement.com) - and maybe others - are making telephone calls indicating that they are "from the congress organizers" and claiming that they have a special hotel deal or that something is wrong with your hotel booking for the European Academy of Religion 2025 in Vienna

Please IGNORE these calls (and/or emails) and DO NOT PROVIDE credit card details.

We do not forward any contact details to third parties. These agencies DO NOT have access to information on hotel bookings made through the University of Vienna's platform, nor to the information you shared with the European Academy of Religion. They are accessing public congress information and searching contact details through search engines like Google.

The Event Management of the University of Vienna is the only official housing agency for European Academy of Religion 2025 in Vienna.
